A Story from Ashray

Pinky’s Journey to Healing

Seven-year-old Pinky (name changed) from West Bengal was diagnosed with B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-ALL) in March 2025. Her parents, overwhelmed and far from home at Tata Memorial Hospital, found refuge at the ASHRAY Center after a hospital social worker’s referral.

From the very beginning, the ASHRAY staff took special efforts to make the family feel comfortable and supported — helping them settle in, adjust to the new environment, and overcome communication challenges. Through patient guidance and a nurturing atmosphere, the family gradually found their footing.

When her mother was unwell, Pinky’s father took charge — managing the household, cooking meals, and ensuring her treatment continued without pause. The family even learned Hindi together, a sign of their adaptability and resilience.

At ASHRAY, Pinky’s mother discovered new confidence through cooking and group activities, while the family became a source of comfort and guidance for others. Their journey reflects the power of compassion, community, and unwavering determination — turning hardship into hope and healing.
